Banshan Subdistrict is located in the northeast part of Hangzhou City. It was established as a town in 1984 and served as the seat of the former Banshan District People's Government. In December 2010, it was transformed into Banshan Subdistrict under Gongshu District. It covers an area of 21.4 square kilometers and is named after the Banshan area within its jurisdiction. Banshan Subdistrict is bordered by Dinglan Subdistrict in Jianggan District to the east and is connected to Shangtang Subdistrict to the south. It is separated from Shiqiao Subdistrict in Xiacheng District by the upper Tang River. The newly completed Wangcheng Pavilion has become a new landmark in the northern part of the city.
